Portland Weekender, June 21-23
Payment for lodging for two nights in Standish at a chalet/two cabin community on a lake. Price is per person. The CT tax of 6.35 will be added.
NOTE: The hotel prices for that weekend start with Motel 6’s rate of $142 per night and go up to $300 per night for the Wyndham and other select chains. We will give up the space and luxury for a comfortable and much more affordable option. The ratings for this small community are all 5-star.
LODGING: A chalet with two small cabins on a lake (dock, canoe, kayak) with ample chairs around a fire pit. The chalet has a cathedral ceiling and a deck that faces the lake. The comfortable chalet sleeps 4 singles (or 6 with doubles.) The lower cabin has a sofa bed and a full sized bed (microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, bath/shower, dining room, TV, etc.) The other cabin has bunk beds and a twin bed. A bathroom is shared by the cabins. (One can take a shower in the chalet!) Sleeping arrangements will be arranged depending on if we have singles or couples first as well as first-come-first served consideration. NOTE: Photos show very pleasant furnished cabins – they are NOT the kind of cabins of camp grounds. The place is run by an older couple who grew up there. I read in a review that blueberry muffins were served??? It sounds charming.
Friday we make our way up US-1 along the coast (Kittery, York, Ogunquit, Kennebunk, etc.) Later on we drive to Standish and check in. Saturday and Sunday will be spent exploring Portland, Old Orchard, lighthouses (lighthouse cruise option,) the coast, etc. Itinerary to be planned. There is so much potential and so much to see!!
